Agreement
Law firm Cooper and Stanford(not their real name), wish to rent a combination of photography and military fine art to impress their clients and lift employee morale. They believe that a small investment in fine art and antiques helps boost employee motivation whilst sending a strong message to clients about the company's core values and high standards.
Cooper and Stanford select £9,000 worth of Photography and £16,000 worth of Military fine art. They place some items in the meeting rooms, some in the foyer and the CEO likes to keep his favourite piece in the office. He is an ex military officer and loves the history and patriotoc significance of a British made 1970's Skyflash missile.
Cooper and Stanford agree on an initial rental period of 6 months. The cost to them is £1,250 per month or 5% x £25,000. Or put another way their charges would be £450 per month for photography (5% x £9,000) and £800 for Military fine art. They don't incur any other charges. Freight, insurance and any other associated costs are included in the charge. VAT is not included.
At the end of 6 months, the Board decide that they would like to purchase the photography, but they would like to swap their military pieces with other military products. So they continue to pay £800 per month and have the benefit of new Military Fine art in their offices. They find this a refreshing change for both clients and employees.
Each rental agreement is guided by a contract which lists the terms and conditions of a rental. We try to keep the contract as simple as possible, but we are required by good corporate governance to cover things like insurance for damage, theft, fire and third party injury.
The contract terms and conditions will set out monthly rental charges and an option to buy the piece at the end of a rental. This has proven to be quite popular.
We also provide an inventory photograph and condition prior to agreement.
Why individuals rent
Private renters are often intimidated by making a major investment in art or an antque. Renting is a simple mechanism which allows people to "try" before they buy. If they are no longer happy with a piece or they grow tired and are loking for a new more thought provoking piece they can simply swap with another product.
Renting for the home allows you to have beautiful pieces at a fraction of the cost. Common reasons to rent by private buyers are for personal pleasure, home improvements, enhancements prior to sale or entertaining.
Why businesses rent
Many businesses rent instead of purchasing art and high end antiques to keep their decor fresh and without having to invest a lot of time, money and inconvenience. We can readily choose complimentary pieces for your business and we have seen enough over the years as to what works and what doesn't.
Changing the artwork regularly enables employers to set the tone of their room(s) depending on how they want to be seen by their clients or create an atmosphere for their employees.
Interesting Fact about renting
Many people who end up renting a piece also end up buying a piece at the end of a rental period. This works out well for the renter as they usually receive a full refund for the piece at the end of the agreement, upon purchase.
